About Our Team

The Chain Gang is a cross-country mountain bike race team that practices in Greenfield, in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire.  The team was started in 2016 and has grown to over 40 athletes and 10 coaches.

The Chain Gang MTB Team falls under the NEYC (New England Youth Cycling) umbrella.  NEYC, a 501c3 non-profit organization, was founded to provide a high-quality mountain bike racing experience while emphasizing the value of all participants and placing camaraderie, positive sporting behavior and the cultivation of health over the competition. In it’s 6th year, the league has grown to over 28 teams and over 700 riders.  There are 6 races held from May to June in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.

Cross-country is a specific form of cycling different from road riding, downhill racing, BMX, cycle-cross, or track racing. Cross-country requires a broad range of skills to ride up and down mountain bike trails.  Team members will develop both technical skills and improve their fitness through cross-country riding. Our team’s activities are focused upon preparing for and racing the NEYC cross-country mountain bike events.

Why join the Chain Gang Mountain Bike Team?  When you ride with a team, riding and training is more fun! Our team is about improving our riding skills and fitness, and achieving personal bests. As a team member you will greatly improve your mountain bike skills in a supportive, enjoyable team environment.  While every ability of rider is welcome, we are a race team, so participation in the races is expected.

Our coaches provide valuable guidance and technical instruction. We set both team and individual goals and work collaboratively to attain these goals. The coaching staff’s main goal is to provide student-athletes with the support and camaraderie to help them achieve success and personal development in a safe and enjoyable manner. We are most proud that our team focuses on creating life-long cyclists.

We are looking forward to an exciting 2022 riding season!
